Exploring

Listened to NPR's best of 2009 podcast today and realized how much music i have been missing. NPR All Songs Considered is such a great new music resource. Sure I've listened to most of the listener pick's but the contributors to the show played and spoke about some of their lesser known favorites; of those my fav's are: Telekinesis, Bill Callahan, Mount Erie, Dry Spells, Noah and the Whale, Laura Gibson, Speech Debelle and Marianne Faithfull.

Watching...

Some upcoming shows of my attendance.
RJD2 at the 9:30 club ~ this Sat (my first time at the 9:30 club)
Furthur at Hampton Coliseum ~ Fri, Feb 12
Trey Anastasio Band at the Jefferson Theater (c'ville) ~ Mon, Feb 8
Hot Chip at the 9:30 club ~ Sat Apr 24

Listening...

The new animal collect ep Track 2 is my fav featuring the Unbroken chain sample.

Found this on a jambase list. Mountian Meadows by Elliott Brood. This front loaded album has some pretty catchy folky songs intermixed between some mediocre blandness.

Poetry of the Deed by Frank Turner. Gave it a listen cuz i thought the cover looked cool. I nearly quit listening after a few seconds but I ended up enjoying the whole album. It definitely skirts on brand of sucki new rock i abhor but it manages to stay on the avette bros/REM side of things.

Office Music

Decided to hit the best of 09' list on Jambase for something new. Listened to French Miami's...was drawn to it by the album cover, and it listened a lot like it looked. Also checked out the Flaming Lips Listening to the album in entirety is quite the journey.

Music Times

Started up the music engine today and found a really sweet thing. Pitchforks top lists are pretty fun to explore but having the years best of albums lists from around the web perfectly integrated into lala has that great combination of being both awesome and convenient.

Heard that Vic Chesnutt committed suicide over the weekend so i decided to go back and listen to an album of his. At the Cut is his latest album. The album certainly doesn't surprise me that it was written by someone ready to die.

folk day

After my enjoyment of Veckatimist I feel the need to explore their early offerings. Today I listen to Yellow House A folk album, the irregular rhythms and the varity of non-traditional instruments really stand out. Compared to Veckatimist, the production is more atmospheric and ethereal. Overall a very enjoyable listen.
